Garmin Astro 320 Tracking System
GPS Tracking System
The Astro comes equipped with a handheld receiver, the Astro 320, and the transmitter, the DC40. The DC40 relays your dog’s status info to your handheld unit via radio signals, but it gives you a pinpoint location, unlike other tracking units. As often as every five seconds, depending on your preferred setting, your dog’s DC 40 transmits his position to your handheld, and you can see
his current location and a trail of where he’s been on the map page of your handheld. Switch over to the Dog Tracker page to view a compass pointing to your dog’s location as well as his current status: whether he’s running, sitting, on point or treeing. Astro boasts a high-sensitivity GPS receiver that can track your dog’s position even in the densest cover. You can track up to ten dogs at one time with Astro, at a distance of up to nine miles away (depending on terrain). The system transmits information by line-of-sight, so it reaches farthest in flat, open territory. The Astro 320 handheld unit can be used to track up to 10 dogs at once; all you do is add additional DC40 transmitters. The DC40 transmitter runs on rechargeable LiON batteries, that only take 4.5 hours to charge, but will give you 17 to 36 hours of use in the field, depending on your settings. The best part is that the Astro 320 handheld is a full feature stand alone GPS unit. So, when you head out on excursions without your four legged companion you can fully navigate your own way. It features all the conveniences of Garmin’s award winning hand held units, including: color display, waterproof exterior, turn by turn directions, barometric altimeter, microSD card slot for maps, long 24 hour run time on two AA batteries (not included), A/C outlet adapter, electronic compass, and much more. It also has hunter specific features like way points, a dog info page and tracker page, and a covey counter, for the bird hunter.
